4th Annual Fire Muster

& 2nd Annual “Firefighters’ Olympics”

Saturday June 14^th, 2008 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

Your shift has been invited to place a team in the “Firefighters’ Olympics” which will be occurring during the 4th Annual Traditions Fire Company and Museum Fire Muster at the Great Plains Mall in Olathe on Saturday June 14th, 2008. The ‘Firefighters’ Olympics’ will be held during the Fire Muster, which is a gathering of antique fire trucks. This muster will be similar to musters on the East coast.

Teams of 4 firefighters/EMTs/paramedics from stations in Johnson County only will be competing in 3 events for trophies that they will display in the winning team’s station. The TOP 3 TEAMS IN EACH EVENT WILL GET A TROPHY; ALL other participating teams will get a plaque!

When: Saturday June 14th, 2008, from 10:00 AM until finished (around 2:00 PM usually)

Where: Great Plains Mall in Olathe, south parking lot near Steve and Barry’s

Who: Open to teams of 4 firefighters, EMTs, paramedics, & retired firefighters in Johnson County

Three events:

Ø 165 lb dummy drag,

Ø ‘Ole-time’ pass the water bucket brigade and barrel filling contest, and a

Ø “Keg barrel water push” (Grande Finale) using hose streams to push an empty keg suspended on a wire strung between 2 telephone style poles (prepare to get wet!!!).

If you or your department is bringing a fire truck to the event, the cost is only $40.00 per team ($10 per firefighter). If you or your department are not bringing a fire truck to the event, the cost is $50.00 per team ($12.50 per firefighter). This is done to encourage departments to bring a fire truck to the fire muster and parade. Eligible participants are any career, part-time, volunteer, or retired firefighter, EMT, or paramedic who is a member of any Johnson County fire department/district. ONLY THE FIRST 12 TEAMS WILL BE ALLOWED TO ENTER SO APPLY EARLY!!!! If you have questions, please call Paul Dickman at 913-832-0145. Deadline for entry is May 16th, 2008. Complete the attached entry form if competing.

Participate!!!! (or at least come out and see):

· A parade of antique fire trucks that starts the fire muster at 9:00 (FREE),

· Antique fire trucks parked for viewing (FREE),

· Watch an automobile extrication drill with the ‘Jaws of Life’ tool (FREE),

· Kids/family can spray water from a real fire hose (FREE),

· Ride on an open cab antique fire truck!!! (donations accepted for fuel),

· See a local news or Lifeflight helicopter land and meet the crew (FREE),

· See a US Army Humvee (FREE),

· Let the kids ride up in a KCPL cherry picker for a view (FREE)!!

This year is forecasted to be the largest muster yet with more antique trucks and turnout from the public than ever before!!! Best part is that admission is FREE!!

Admission to the muster is FREE, and FREE ice cold Pepsi products donated by Pepsi of Olathe are available for everyone!!!!
